10am-11am Cape Kamui, Shakotan (60 minutes free time)
The coastal scenery along the Sea of Japan on Hokkaido’s Shakotan Peninsula is also known as Deep Blue Shakotan. It takes about 20 minutes to walk the roughly 770-meter path from the intersection to the tip of Cape Kamui. Follow the hiking trail along the cape to appreciate the ultra-transparent deep blue waters of Shakotan. While overlooking the Sea of Japan, you can also enjoy a 300-degree panoramic view of the ocean horizon from the cliffs, hailed as one of Hokkaido’s most spectacular landscapes. Cape Kamui is an unmissable highlight when visiting the Shakotan Peninsula!
11:20am-11:50am Shimauchi Coast (30 minutes free time)
A beautiful coastline listed as one of Japan’s Top 100 Coastlines. Here you can witness the vivid cobalt-blue waters famous as "Shakotan Blue". Walk through a pedestrian-only tunnel to be greeted by steep cliffs, massive boulders and the iconic blue ocean of Shakotan, presenting a magnificent natural spectacle!
*Note: From April 25 to May 7, the itinerary will be adjusted from Shimauchi Coast to Hokkaido Shrine to align with cherry blossom viewing season.
Otaru Canal (Viewing from the coach)
Completed in the 12th year of the Taisho era, Otaru Canal is Japan’s only canal constructed through land reclamation rather than inland excavation, stretching 1,140 meters long. As a port city underpinning Hokkaido’s development, Otaru flourished as the gateway to northern Japan from the Meiji to Taisho periods. Lined with historic warehouses alongside the canal that symbolizes the port’s prosperity, the scenery evokes nostalgic glimpses of bygone eras.
13:30pm-15:40pm Otaru Shopping Street (Dinner at own expense 130 minutes free time)
A 10-15-minute straight walk along Sakaimachi Street leads to a district lined with retro buildings dating from the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa eras, brimming with nostalgic charm, also known as the "Wall Street of the North". The most iconic landmark here is Kitaichi Glass. Housed in renovated warehouses from Hokkaido’s pioneering era, the complex includes a glass museum, glass outlet mall and crystal gallery. Amid the dimly lit historic warehouses, glass and crystal pieces shimmer brilliantly, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Additionally, Sakaimachi Street features numerous unique general stores and cafes converted from heritage buildings.
15:40pm-16:10pm
Otaru Music Box Museum – Steam Clock & Complimentary Exquisite Small Gift (30 minutes free time)
Otaru Music Box Museum is one of Hokkaido’s most popular and iconic romantic attractions, nestled within the European-style district along Otaru’s Sakaimachi Street. The red-brick architecture paired with the vintage steam clock transports visitors into a melodious world of old times, offering a gentle and soothing ambiance.
The museum displays thousands of music boxes from across the globe, ranging from traditional hand-cranked wooden and crystal glass designs to cute anime-themed styles. Wind up the clockwork to let crisp melodies linger in the air, preserving travel memories within every note.
16:40pm-17:10pm Shiroi Koibito Park (30 minutes free time)
As a household-renowned souvenir brand across Hokkaido, Shiroi Koibito Park is also one of Sapporo’s most iconic tourist spots. Explore the history of chocolate, admire precious art collections, and watch the live production process of Shiroi Koibito chocolates. Beyond snack-making workshops, factory tours and chocolate history exhibitions, the park’s charm extends far beyond indoor attractions. The outdoor grounds are equally worth exploring, featuring blooming early summer rose gardens, colorful flower displays and specialty stores selling Shiroi Koibito soft-serve ice cream.
*Note: Factory tour tickets are not included in park admission.
Return to Sapporo for a pleasant end to the day’s tour! The return time is for reference only, and the coach may head back earlier subject to smooth itinerary progress and favorable road conditions.
