Itinerary:
San Francisco → Pacific Heights (pass by) → Fort Point National Historic Site (15 mins) → Muir Woods National Monument (Optional, 90 mins) → Sausalito (90 mins) → Battery Spencer (25 mins) → San Francisco
Pacific Heights
Pacific Heights is one of San Francisco's most affluent and picturesque neighborhoods, renowned for its elegant mansions, unique architecture, and unparalleled bay views. This area is not only a residential area for wealthy residents but also a significant cultural and historical landmark.
Fort Point National Historic Site
Fort Point, located south of the Golden Gate Bridge, serves as the entrance to San Francisco Bay and is a popular attraction along the Golden Gate Bridge. This fort was built to commemorate the defense of San Francisco Bay during wartime. Interestingly, the American Civil War broke out just after its completion.
Muir Woods National Monument
Muir Woods National Monument, named after the American conservationist John Muir, is located just outside San Francisco, a one-hour drive away. In this pristine forest, you can see and touch natural landscapes dating back thousands of years. Tall, majestic fir trees have stood firm for centuries, untouched by human intervention, preserving their pristine condition. Please note that you should not take any trace of this area while visiting. Stout, sturdy trees are common throughout the park. A cross-section of a tree stump at the entrance reveals it's over 1,000 years old. Americans have used white ink to outline the tree's growth rings and record significant events in the United States during that time. This serves as a reminder to future generations of the inseparable connection between nature and humanity. Under the witness of time, nature's transformations make humans seem insignificant. Strolling through the forest of sacred trees, each of which has been thousands of years old, in various forms, is a truly spectacular sight. Here, you can see the remains of the early pioneers' struggles and historical artifacts. It's a living textbook of modern California history, well worth a family-friendly visit.
Sausalito
Sausalito, the filming location for the famous movie "Married at First Sight," boasts picturesque scenery and a vibrant artistic atmosphere, lending the town a unique charm and character. Just across the bridge from San Francisco, it faces the bay. With villas nestled against the hillside and yachts docked along the waterfront, it feels like a Mediterranean town, radiating a holiday atmosphere.
Battery Spencer
Battery Spencer was originally a military base at the Golden Gate Bridge during World War II, but its military use was later abandoned. Its proximity to the Golden Gate Bridge makes it an ideal spot for both distant views and photographic opportunities, making it a popular tourist destination.
